What's Different About the Third Printing of the Recovery By Choice Workbook?

The most obvious difference is the cover.  The new cover tries to model one of the main messages of the workbook, namely that sober life is something to smile about.  The cover also points in the direction of a more youthful and ethnically diverse membership. A lively cover photo, such as this one, is likely to attract more readers than the graphically neutral cover on the previous printings.

Another obvious difference is in the title fonts.  The new font (Verdana Bold) gives a steadier, stronger, more confidence-inspiring impression than the former font (Whizbang, used in comics).

The third printing is on better quality, brighter, whiter, and thinner paper stock. As a result, the new printing is a shade thinner than the old book, and has a smoother, more polished feel in the hand.

If you look at the new printing sideways from the long edge, you can see the black tabs that mark each chapter, much as in a dictionary, encyclopedia, or other reference work.  You could not see these tabs with the book closed in the previous printings.

Inside the book, known typographical errors have been corrected. Mistakes and inconsistencies in formatting have been cleaned up. A few explanatory footnotes have been added -- to explain, for example, who Yogi Berra is.  The list of feelings in the chapter on Feelings has been expanded.  In a very few places, the phrasing has been clarified.  A few lines here and there have been dropped, changed, or added. A few small subsections have been added or reframed, such as in the relapse chapter. Practically all of these changes came in response to reader feedback to the previous printings.  The net impact of the changes in content is almost negligible.  Although page numbers may not always match exactly, readers working the book together should have no difficulties using the different printings.

I want to thank the many readers who took the trouble to send in their feedback about the workbook.  Your suggestions have inspired the changes in the third printing.  Your strong and sustained positive response to the book has been an inspiration to keep going and keep growing. As with the previous editions, this printing carries a feedback form at the end of the book.
